Over the past few weeks there has been quite an internal revolution going on here at Gaby-G HQ. It has been brought to my attention that transformation happens in stages, and when you are ready for the next loop, the universe will give you signs and push you in the right direction. And this is The Rivers of Joy – The Stages of Healing, my journey of opening up to my next journey of healing.
I have had a few signs that I am ready for more healing, and I am excited for what is to come, but I must confess that it is a bit unsettling and confronting at the same time.
One sign that has been quite insightful and that I want to share with you is that a couple of weeks ago during a group coaching session, the lovely Viknes from Honour your Heart was explaining her work to me. She is a Creative Fit coach and she uses art to coach clients; she also mentioned that when a client gets stuck during a certain point while creating their art, that they are generally also stuck in that area of their life.
I was very intrigued and coincidently I had just bought a canvas and some oil paint (I had never painted with oil before). So I jumped right in and decided to paint to see where I would get stuck, and this is what I got out of it …
I had an idea in my mind for what I wanted the painting to look like, and as soon as I realised how long it would take and how much work would be involved in it, I stopped myself and took a shortcut.
Then, when I was finished with my painting I couldn’t even appreciate it, feeling that it was “mehhh”—something I always seem to feel about my artwork.’
I called this painting The Rivers Of Joy, and this is how the name came about…You might recall a few weeks ago I pulled the card of Joy from my angel deck, and later when my son saw my painting, he said… “Mummy, it looks like rivers!” – And that was pretty much it, The Rivers of Joy was born!
It was quite an experience and when I reflected back to my life, I could so clearly see the pattern. I am always rushing through things, I always try and take the shortcut, I am impatient and I never take full pride in anything I do. There is always a sense of “this is not good enough!” It’s the story of my life.
When I look at this, I can so see that there are some things I still need to work on, and that is ok. I am not perfect and I don’t intend on being perfect either.
What I do want to do is be able to see the beauty in what I create, to feel true appreciation for it and to feel gratitude about how far I have come.
For this to happen I realise I need to feel good enough about myself without any external influences (how many followers I have, how many clients, money in my account, etc.). I need to feel good enough about myself, my life and what I have now. I need to truly appreciate these things, and learn to be happy and grateful for them all.
And let me tell you, I am truly grateful for my life. But I do find myself always wanting more, one more client, one more holiday, one more digit in the bank account, the list goes on.
I realise that what this does is make me feel like I always need more, that what I have now is not enough, that my achievements are not enough and therefore it all leads to the felling that I am not enough, just as I am now.
I am now working through these beliefs and habits. Every habit needs retraining, so even though I have realised where my behaviours are coming from, I still need to learn the new behaviours and thoughts, and for that I need to practice paying attention to my mind. I need to be aware of myself, my words and my feelings.
And this is a part of the new journey, new healing and new stage of growth in my life.
You may call it more self-love, more self-compassion, more self-appreciation. I know it’s time and I know I am ready, and I can already feel the softening within my core, the lightness and the pull-back. The pressure is lifting and there is a sense of ease and trust.
How about you?
Is there something about yourself that has been catching your attention?
Something that needs working on?
Some new awareness?
