Do you find yourself so totally immersed in a project that you often find that you have left everything you love aside, forgotten and seemingly discarded?
It is so easy to get caught up in the bigger goals, the destination, that we sometimes forget to enjoy the process or the journey; to appreciate each step and to actually continue to live a meaningful life regardless of what is going on around you, IS what truly matters.
In my journey of finding my ground and knowing what direction to take not only with my career but my life as well, I have found myself racing as if there was a desperate need to reach my destination, as if happiness would be waiting for me at the finish line.
And then, I remember as clear as can be, my coaching colleague asking me:
“Are you actually enjoying what you are doing?” (Thank you Merve!)
I have no doubt about the answering being a big, fat “NO’’!
I was stressed. I was insecure and I was desperately trying to reach something that wasn’t real. At that moment, I dropped everything that I was doing and realised that I was only racing because my current activity was not my true calling. My true calling came with peace and ease, with a deeply seated knowing that I would get to my destination without having to race.
But, that is not to say that I do not find myself continuing to race through everything that must get done. For example, I will return to my exercise routine once my website is complete. I will take more time out once I have finished writing this or that. Before you know it, I have gone for days without thought or care for myself.
Here’s the biggest question:
What’s the point of ignoring myself and my needs?
What is the point of accomplishing things if I do not get to enjoy the process? What is the point if I don’t have the time to enjoy the present moment?
This is when I have to stop, take a deep breath and allow myself to do the things I love on a regular basis. I trust that what needs to get done will get done without force or pressuring myself. These things will come with ease and they will come from the heart.
When I stop to smell the roses, everything comes naturally and life flows with greater ease and lightness.
So, I ask you this:
Are you enjoying the process of working toward your dreams?
Are you taking time to do the things that you love regardless of what you have on your plate right now?
How would it feel not to pressure yourself?
How would it feel to know in your heart that there is no need to rush through life?
What is yours is yours!
And as long as you are following your heart and taking steps toward your dreams, everything else will follow.
If you find yourself rushing around and continuously stressed, take a moment to sit with yourself.
Where are those feelings coming from? Is it a voice of insecurity, self-doubt, fear? Make time to connect with yourself and explore where you are coming from.
Never forget that your dreams starts with the now. Your dreams starts with enjoying your present moment. The moments of happiness along the path is what will take you towards a more fulfilling and happy life. It is not the big goal, it is all the small steps along the way.
The big goal is just the magnet that will lead you there.
What do you need to change to start enjoying the path right now?
