This weekend I saw the inspiring Caroline Myss in Brisbane with some amazing girls. I was very lucky to have been gifted a ticket by a very special lady and I went in with an open heart and mind.
I didn’t really know what to expect and what her teachings would have been on. All I knew is that I would learn something new, and that in itself was enough to make me excited and eager to go.
Through my studies with Nature Care College we explored a bit of Caroline Myss’s work through using archetypes within our sessions. The power of introducing people to the different parts of themselves is amazing. Showing them their inner world and what is behind their behaviours and life choices can be a very life changing experience. And for that reason I knew I was in for a treat!
As I sat there in that beautiful audience I found myself having goosebumps after goosebumps just from hearing the words Caroline had to share. So many moments of confirmation, others of a reality check and much perspective brought on by this no bullshit, straight talking powerhouse woman.
I realise that even though I have explored many of those topics previously, sometimes they take time to sink in, and as I sat and truly absorbed her words, I though I would put together my main takeaways from that beautiful day and share it with you hoping that she will inspire and shake you up too.
I did not take any notes on the day, so please be aware that those are not her exact words, but an actual summary of my understanding of her messages and how they resonated with me.
Here they are…
- “Happiness is a fantasy that we create in our own minds.”
We create the perfect relationships, perfect jobs, perfect houses, perfect families, etc. Only so we can continue to strive for something that isn’t real.
So I ask you to truly rethink about what happiness really means to you.
What do you feel you need to be happy right now?
And…. Do you really need it?
- We believe that we are entitled to things…
To love, to happiness, a day off, a higher pay, a better house, the list goes on…
The reality is that we are not entitled to anything.
If instead we would concentrate on paying attention to what we have right now instead of always believing that for some reason we deserve more, depression wouldn’t be such a part of our lives.
Caroline then went on to ask us to think about someone who really loves us, and think about how much they love us.
I sat there picturing the beautiful face of my little boy and all his love and cuddles for me, (even when I am a dragon HA!) and then she said…
“Well, guess what?! You are not entitled to their love, but they love you anyway. So get over yourself and pay attention to what you have right now in your life. Stop thinking that you are entitled to a rest just because you have had a bad day and get on with life.”
- Get to know your archetypes.
She made a big point in saying that just like learning to read or to write, we should learn how to understand and explore our inner world – our archetypes (the different parts of ourselves that control our behaviours and actions).
When you understand where your behaviours are coming from, you stop playing mind games with people around you. You learn to identify what archetype within you is popping their head up and taking centre stage. And by being aware of those parts in you, you will also learn to dissociate from other people’s mind games and in doing so you wont need to engage on power battles and unnecessary drama. (not that any drama in necessary really)
You will also find compassion for people in your life when you can clearly see that their actions are coming from a perhaps very insecure part of them.
- You don’t need to continuously repeat your story.
You need to learn to release it and to move on. Stop blaming everything for how your life has turned out. Stop blaming people in your life, your childhood and life experiences.
“Stop the self pity and move on because nobody really cares” (yep she is just that straight up and honest).
“Take control of your life, grow up and stop feeling like the world revolves around you.”
- A life mastery is to learn to be ok with being invisible.
I think this is a massive one with how big social media has grown in our lives this days.
Learn how to just live your life for the sake of it, doing what you love without having to prove a point and show it off to everyone around you.
That is the happiness that comes from within and that doesn’t need any approval or recognition.
- The power of prayer
She shared with us a beautiful story about the power of prayer and reminded us about how much we need to learn to surrender and to ask for guidance in our lives.
And last but not least….
“Your calling will come to you. Stop looking for it! Just surrender to the universe and trust that your are being guided towards what you need right now.”
So much wisdom, I don’t even feel like I have made her justice with those words, but I hope that you have learnt something through my sharing.
If you want to learn more about Caroline Myss, you can find her online courses and books through her website by clicking here. There is also some information on the Wake Up Project page, the people behind this amazing tour and the Kindness Cards, check it out.

With love and an inspired heart.
