This is a story of courage, bravery and a deep seated inner knowing that her intuition was guiding her in the right direction.
Who here hasn’t been stuck in a job they hate? Who haven’t felt that they job felt misaligned? I personally know a few people that are now stuck in a job they hate. So many of us are because we don’t believe that we deserve better. We grow accustomed to staying safe and we stop thriving and end up loosing lust for life because deep down those situations are soul sucking.
I think we are very lucky to have Kylie Anderson from Be Your Radiant Self this week on Inspiring Journeys to share her journey with you and give you some inspiration, guiding you to listen to your intuition and follow your dreams. The journey is not always perfect, but the lessons and the growth will lead you to a much better place. Your heart always knows better.
Kylie is a Lifestyle & Mindset Coach, Personal Trainer & Blogger from Melbourne in Australia, she is 29 years old and a Sagittarius to the tee (hello adventure and bravery!). Kylie also does angel card readings (she did one for me a while ago and it was so so beautiful, thank you Kylie!). And last but not least, Kylie has an online program coming up called Happy, Healthy & Radiant, the focus for the program is on mindset and working on that when it comes to exercise, nutrition and self-confidence. I highly encourage you to check it out. I will also let you in the secret that I will be jumping onboard and recording a video where I share my journey of wellness and weight loss with her program members. This will be an interesting experience for me, but I have so much to share on that topic and I absolutely love Kylie’s message of health and Wellness.
Kylie Anderson – Be Your Radiant Self
Tell me a bit about your journey, the difficulties and bumps you have encountered along the way?
In my past life I was an event manager and worked in administration. I have been made redundant, twice due to two different companies not being able to afford their staff! This happening to me made me lose my way and my confidence. I jumped from job to job for a couple years until I eventually landed back in the events industry as a Production Manager.
I thought this job was exactly what I wanted out of a career. I worked on television shows, music festivals and all the big name music concerts, but it wasn’t. Something deep within me was niggling for something else. It also didn’t help that my boss was one of the most negative and angry people I have ever come across. It wasn’t a pleasant environment to work in at all. Towards the end of my time there I would come home crying most nights, wondering how I would get through another day working there. It was horrible!
I started studying to become a personal trainer while I was still working full time and I was doing work experience at a local gym two evenings a week. This was my way out! Plus I loved it; it filled me up with so much joy. I had finally found my calling!
What was your aha moment? What pushed you towards taking action and taking steps towards change?
It would have had to have been when I realised I was actually really good at being a fitness instructor and personal trainer. I felt that I could actually start my own business and do this full time. Plus work was getting way too stressful, I started suffering from anxiety and I became a negative person because of being around my boss. I had lost myself and that scared me and my husband.
I ended up resigning in October 2012 without another job lined up. I gave two months’ notice because it was the busy period and I finished in late December. I told the manager of the gym I was doing work experience and that I had resigned and she offered me a job to begin in January 2013 while I finished my certificate 4 in personal training.
Taking a leap of faith on something that felt so right, has been the best thing I have ever done for my career.
Describe yourself before your journey of transformation/awakening.
I have always been a positive person and lived life to the fullest. I was however someone that stressed over little things, would get bad tempered over the smallest things, ate crappy easy food and didn’t really think about caring for my body too much because I was blessed with a slim frame; that was until my weight started to creep up on me.
I lacked self-confidence, badly. I didn’t believe in myself and my capabilities and thought that I would just be in a job I didn’t like forever. I worked because I needed the money to live and that was it.
How life has changed!
Do you feel anything in particular contributed to your journey? (Anything pushed you towards your struggles, bumps and traumas?)
For me I think it was my lack of belief in myself. I thought that I only deserved what I was getting and that I couldn’t change it. Plus because I was so lost with what I wanted to do with my life, I tried so many courses and quit them part way through and because of that my parents then just stopped taking notice when I had a new idea. I don’t blame them because I can see now why they acted that way, but I used that as fuel for my fire when I realised that fitness and health was my calling. I wanted to show them and everyone else that I could do this.
What has been the most significant change in your life?
Quitting my job and taking a chance on myself.
Doing that was massive because my now hubby and I had just bought a house, we were planning our wedding and I was starting up my business. It was a huge chance but one that has paid off more than I could have ever imagined. Plus I got to enjoy summer off for the first time in years! Working in the events industry, that period is the busiest time so I never got to take time off during December/January.
Looking back, do you now understand that the difficulties you went through were a part of your journey? And if so, what have you discovered about yourself through going through your experiences? What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself?
Oh absolutely! Without all the struggles I have been through I don’t think I would be able to be where I am. People can relate to me because I have been there too. I have had to lose weight, change my diet, learn to love myself, learn to love exercise, learn to believe in myself and not settle for a job that I hated.
I have learnt that I am determined and passionate when it comes to something that I love doing. My business is my baby and I think that shows in everything that I put out there into the world.
I won’t ask you what advice you would like to have given your younger self because I know your younger self wouldn’t have listened. But what you wish you knew back then?
That I can do anything I put my mind to and that everything I have been through has happened for a reason; it has made me the person I am today and without it I wouldn’t be as relatable because I wouldn’t have been through what my clients and readers are going through.
What has been your most important life lesson?
Trust your intuition!
I used to ignore feelings that I would get but when it came to resigning from my job, I said to myself “give me the strength to resign when the time is right”. Literally five minutes later, an overwhelming feeling came over me and I wrote out my resignation then and there and went to see my boss. I have never looked back! We get feelings and thoughts for a reason, so trust them even if they don’t make sense at the time because that is the course of action that you need to take.
What was the main belief you had to change in your life in order for you to be able to move forward?
I can do this!
Again, it comes back to self-confidence with me. Once I believed I was deserving and capable of following my dreams, you couldn’t stop me from chasing them down and grabbing them with both hands and my whole heart.
If you are a mother, how has this journey impacted on your life as a mother? How have your kids benefited from your transformation?
I’m a new mother. I had my daughter in May so she is only 3 months old but since having her she has given me the strength and clarity to change the way I do business. To work smarter and not harder so I can be there for her completely. Once I return from maternity leave in late September I’ll be focusing on the work that fills me up and leaving the rest.
If you were to give an advice to someone who is feeling lost, hopeless and struggling in life right now, what would it be?
It will get better. Yep that is a piece of advice that doesn’t seem very helpful at the time but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Trust that what is happening to you right now has a purpose and lesson in it, even if it doesn’t seem that way. Keep your chin up and believe you are on the path you are meant to be on.
Three words to describe yourself now?
Content, happy and grateful.
What is your most heartfelt belief in life? Share your message with the world! What are you most passionate about?
I believe that all women deserve to live their most happiest, healthiest and radiant life in all areas of their world. Life is too short to be unhappy and there is no fun in that. Life is here to be lived so believe in yourself and reach for the stars.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Make sure you have a great support network around you; it really makes life a lot easier. For me when I quit my job, my hubby was supportive of me 100% because he could see how much I was struggling. And even today, he supports every decision I make even if it means I need to lean on him a bit more financially. I know deep within my heart that my business is going to continue to grow and grow and will set us up for a very comfortable future.
