There are so many routes your life could take, so many things you want to do. You know you are creative and capable of great things, but still you keep on feeling stuck, overwhelmed and unable to move forward.
You jump from one project to another. Nothing gets completed and you are left feeling like a failure over and over again.
My guess here is that you are a bit of a dreamer, and let me tell you— I LOVE THAT. That’s a quality that I admire and respect.
Some people might say being a dreamer isn’t a good thing, but for me, there is nothing more important than keeping that dreamer inside of you alive.
That dreamer inside of you will push you towards great things. It will take you to the depths of your heart, and it will help you create a life that you truly love.
The secret here that you must understand is that the thing holding you back isn’t the dreamer inside you, it is your fears.
Fear will present itself in the form of self imposed road blocks, such as procrastination, limiting beliefs and the good old distraction.
When you find yourself coming up with excuses, telling yourself you don’t have money to take that course you want to (even though you would certainly go into debt to buy a piece of furniture that probably won’t change your life), and just bit by bit putting your dreams into the ‘too hard’ basket, I ask you to stop and look your fear in the eyes.
What is your fear about? Is it possible that the dream you are pursuing isn’t really a heart-based dream? Or maybe it’s the fact that some underlying self-beliefs are stoping you in your tracks?
First things first, getting in touch with heart-based dreams won’t happen overnight. It is a process of self-exploration and getting in touch with yourself over and over again; candle by candle you will lighten up your inner world and see life with clarity, knowing where you need to head and what you really want out of life.
But in order for you to slowly start lighting up those candles, it is important that you take notice on what is stopping you from moving forward right now.
Whenever you find yourself holding back or feeling stuck again, grab a pen and a paper and answer these questions for yourself. Let your hands write freely with each question for as long as it takes.
What is stopping me from moving forward right now?
What can I do differently to help me move forward?
What is one risk I’m willing to take that will help me get closer to my dream?
What can get in my way?
How can I shift that and have more faith in myself?
It is a good idea to explore those things in a moment where you are feeling blocked. Sit with it and see what pops up, there is no right or wrong. Writing helps you get in touch with what is truly deeply inside of you.
Frustration is a good entry place for self exploration
Trust the process and trust that with each step you take, new doors will open and you will find your direction.
Even when you ‘fail’ at something, you are still learning and growing.
Don’t bash yourself over past mistakes. It will take your confidence away and it wont help you move forward. Instead, celebrate yourself for being brave before, for taking steps towards living a more purposeful life and for reminding the world around you to keep on going.
Remember that there is much more to life than living in your comfort zone.
